A small confession

Star ratings don't work for kids' books.

We ditched the stars. Every book gets quick honest tags: scary, silly, cozy, the weird thing your kid said when you closed the cover. The shelf learns your kids.

How it works

Four taps. One growing library.

Small moments at bedtime that add up to a record of who your kid is becoming as a reader.

Memories, made

The book they finished, the face they made.

Have them hold up the book and snap a photo. That proud "I did it!" moment. We turn it into a keepsake card with the book cover, so every finished book becomes something to celebrate and remember.

One night I couldn't remember the book she'd asked for every week last spring. So we built the shelf we wished we'd had — one that remembers for you, and learns what your kid loves.

FAQ

Questions parents ask.

Is it really free?

Yes. No ads, no paywall, no premium tier. Lives in your browser. We built it because we needed it ourselves. It stays free for the same reason.

Do I need to download an app?

Nope. littleshelf is a website that works like an app. Open it in Safari or Chrome, tap “Add to Home Screen,” and you’re done. No App Store, no updates.

Is my kid’s data private?

Your shelf is yours. We don’t sell data, don’t ad-target, and don’t share anything publicly. The only people who see your kid’s reads are the family and friends you specifically invite.

What ages does it work for?

From the first board book to thick chapter books. Most families start somewhere between six months and eight years. A lot of kids keep their own shelf going long after that.

Can my older kid log their own books?

Yes. Kids seven and up can have their own login, build their own shelf, and watch their streaks grow. Younger siblings can stay under your account until they’re ready.

What if a book isn’t showing up?

Most popular picks show up by title or barcode scan. For niche, indie, or older books, search can be finicky — try the ISBN (the long number on the back) instead. It's much more reliable. Some covers will still come up blank for very obscure titles. That's just the data we have, and we keep filling in the gaps.

So, what should you read tonight?

Free. Lives in your browser. Add it to your home screen and bam — it's basically an app.
